Amanda Vaughn

Amanda is a graduate researcher at the University of Texas at Austin studying birth defects, embryonic development and protein structures in the Molecular Biosciences Department. She is an avid cyclist, active community member and science communicator, sharing her work widely through various art forms like painting, illustrating zines, hosting radio shows and making music. Amanda’s alternative approach to science enables her to engage different parts of the Austin community in scientific dialogues and she prides herself on her work-life balance, believing that you shouldn’t have to sacrifice your quality of life to do relevant scientific work.

“My goal is to encourage people to love science the way I do and to realize that it’s just like another form of art.”
